Several years ago, Howard Small, a dedicated Mary Chapin Carpenter fan started his own MCC mailing list by advertising through the folk and country newsgroup. He ran the list through his personal e-mail system. Over 90 participants from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and even Japan  kept Howard busy relaying messages to members who all  had one special bond - the respect and appreciation for the talents of Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Through the good and the bad, Howard  managed to keep the list going and much information and good chatter  passed through this information highway.
Back in the beginning I doubt that Howard knew just how special this list would become, not only did he develope a place where fans of Mary Chapin could discuss her music, review concerts and communicate their thoughts but he also develope a circle of friends.

Now, the baton has been passed on to Sarah Lamaire, who has taken the group a step forward by developing an automated list. This brave soul has taken the responsibility of being our moderator and to continue the journey has opened the doors to the World Wide Web. Lets hope that there will be no stones in the road and we all find our place in the world with respect to Mary Chapin and to all members on this list.

The Mary Chapin Carpenter list is open to all Internet users who are interested in exchanging information about singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter. Some examples of the type of information people can contribute are: favorite songs/CDs, television and radio appearances, news about MCC and her band members and friends (Shawn Colvin, Gillian Welch, Trisha Yearwood, Kim Richey, etc.), web sites and other on-line events, concert reviews, magazine and newspaper articles, etc.

Historically, this has been a friendly group and we'd like to keep it that way. For that reason, we've established the following guidelines:

     1.  Please be polite and respectful of other members' opinions.  While
          you might not always agree with someone, you should respect their
          right to have an opinion, even if you think they're nuts.


     2.  Be succinct.  Remember that many members receive their mail at their
          workplace and may not have time to read long missives.  Avoid
          including other messages in your reply unless it's absolutely 
          necessary.


     3.  Private responses to individual e-mails should happen off list.  
          Make sure that your mail is of interest to several members
          before posting to the list.


     4.  Keep on or near the topic of Mary Chapin Carpenter.  Some digression
          is ok but try not to let it get out of hand.

If a member does not adhere to these guidelines or in any way bothers other members of the list, the moderator will contact that person directly. If the problems persist, that person will be unsubscribed from the list.
